Riding the sea waves, is a thrilling prospect for even those who have only a slight bent towards adventure. So if you are heading towards a beach, then do make skim boarding a part of your agenda and you will end up having a great vacation. On the other hand if you already are an ardent skim boarder then you do need not be convinced about the fun that can be had in skim boarding, and if you have not tried it, then you surely are missing something fabulous.
Once you have ridden the board across the waves, beaches never remain same. You will look beyond sunning yourself, playing with Frisbees or just being a plain beach bum. Imagine running with your sleek fiberglass skim board towards an incoming wave, putting it on the water jumping on it and then coolly gliding over the waves, trying to balance yourself, sometimes slipping over and crashing down into the sea. Every part is great fun.
Skim boards are an important part of this sport. You should choose yours well because that will ensure that you have ‘smooth’ rides over the waves. And don’t worry; you need not learn rocket science to select the perfect skim board for yourself. They are usually oval shaped, with pintails. But don’t get confused if you find custom shaped boards that may have a squash-tail or fishtail. Classify them under aberrations preferred by some, and that could include you in future! Same goes for the front end, they usually taper to a point but then you can also expect to find boards with more rounded front ends. When it comes to the length select one which comes up to your mid-chest. Your weight is a very important factor when it comes to choosing the right sized board for yourself. Several board manufacturers make boards for people under various weight ranges. So make sure that the board you get for yourself goes along with your weight. The thumb rule is that big guys need bigger sized boards. The right sized board helps in maneuverability.
